Profile

Hometown:
Anchorage, Alaska
About Me:
I've lived in Alaska my whole life...born and raised. I did leave the state for school tho.
I have always been facinated with Ireland...perhaps because of it's history...or maybe an old family link (only about an 8th or 16th Irish along with about 56 other things...a bit of a mutt I guess). Either way, I have had the oportunity to go there twice and loved it both times. I would love to go there again for a longer period of time, but financially that does not seem so possible.
Ah well, a girl can dream right?
I have a BS in Anthropology/Archaeology so the history facinates me greatly.
Becides that...90% of the people I met and talked to were kind and warm. I loved hearing stories (be they true or not) and the music, seeing the scenery, wandering around, and trying to blend in as much as possible!! :-P
Favorite Music:
All kinds!
Favorite TV Shows:
"Are you being served?"
lol it's a hystarical british comedy I used to watch when I was yonger.
Also "Good Eat's" with Alton Brown
Currently Reading? (Books Magazines etc)
World Without End
Favourite Place?
So many!! But to narrow it down...In Ireland = Achill Island, quite possibly Gielty's. Here at home = on sofa in front of fire with a good book! :-)

i bought a long to the knee unlined slicker type jacket at H & M store for me and a short version for my daughter and itwas enough to keep light rain off. we have boots-only wore mine once at plymouth, but a cap is good if it raisn, if nothing else to shiled the camera. my sister bought a peewee umbrella but the winds can make managing it and a camera interesting depending where one is.

Make sure to bring thin long sleeved shirts that oyu can double and that dry easily-layers are key-one hoodie and maybe a light sweater as it is odd this time of year i am finding. i wore shorts yeaterday but long sleeves and a sweater too.

Can't argue with you there, Fairbanks is horribly cold. My (now ex) GF moved up there for a job and I went with her. When the relationship went south so did I. ;)Living back in the lower-48 now, which is nice. Although I do miss the 22 hours of daylight in the summers. Congrats on the upcoming trip! I'd love to go visit the places my family came from--we'll, part of the family anyway. Guess we're all American mutts over here eh?

We are back in our Irish home, soaking in the peace and beauty. Here til mid-August this year, 6 months next year. Loads of work reclaiming plants and ground that the nettles and grass have taken back while we were away. The weather has been Irish. 8-) You will enjoy your visit, for sure--how long will you be able to stay?

We went through Cork and did not have the opportunity to stop...we made our way to Kinsale which is a charming town to visist and the beaches to it's south were beautiful. We rented a car and didn't do tours...the roads are narrow and take some getting use to use with all being opposite. We feel in love with Kilarney National Park...oh the garden there you could spend a day and not see it all, there is hiking...short and long ones. Jaunting Carts to take you around if you wish. My husband had to get his tooth fixed there by a local dentist too. The Ring of Kerry is a must see for such. We did best when we planted ourselves in one location for the day or half day and walked to see what we wanted. We got to meet people that way and get a feel for the area. We were there late June to July and the sun set was after 10 pm ...which you must have there in Alaska also...the opportunity to explore more and enjoy. The music ...just pick a pub that has the style you like. We went to the smaller pubs many times and the local musicans played the traditional folk, it was great. Just go with your heart girl, and it will be fun. You will have to keep all posted after your return. I envy you for the travel this summer. This summer we are staying put for my brother in law is fighting cancer and we want to be around for we don't know how much longer he will be with us here...and to support my sister. LIfe's adventures take us all on many turns. So yes let us know how it all goes...or any final plans you make.

Take care, Pat

Sandy you will love your visit to Ireland...the people, culture, land and music. It's a wonderful place that fills the soul. We enjoyed the land and fell in love with it. I hope to go back within a few years and stay longer next time. Be adventerous...it's funnier that way. Such a different world...but again spoke to me. So what are you all planning on seeing?
