Ah yes, the scandals. Serious stuff then. Made life very difficult.
It must have been convenient to "have the Irish" so the young ones didn'tt know the family secrets. My Italian friends always talk of their parents speaking Italian so they wouldn't know things.
Love your music. I'll check in now and then to hear it.
Good health to you in your battle with cancer. Been there and survived. I wish the best to you. MJ.
Siusan and Zig,
Love your mix of music. As for O'Rourke I am that by a marraige long and good. I have done quite a bit of ancestor hunting about them. The first O'Rourke arrived in Philadelphia in 1845. I wrote a book about them and the history of immigraton to Philadelphia called "Le Deora Go Leor Is Dochas Mor" (couldn't do the fada marks here) It means 'with many tears and great hope". I found much about them but I never found where they were from. Our families never knew and I suspect in the early years they felt the need to "be American". I was a hard time to be an immigrant and likely that hasn't changed for today's arrivals.
All of which is to say, I don't know if we are related but to I do know to be an O'Rourke (Ui Ruairc (the son of the red haired one) is to be from a proud and heroic line. Lots of history with this clan. Slan, MaryJo
Thank you for asking to be added. I happily obliged. I sing Celtic music. (Not professionally mind you) And even though I might not exactly know what all the words mean...it talks to me. Your music is great. Look forward to listening to all the rest. :D
hi and thanks for the request, this site is totally opening my eyes to irish music..i'm looking forward to finding artists and lots of happy listening..:)
dear i live inalberta born and raised in newfoundland and my heart is torn between newfoundland and ireland where my ancestors come from, ive never been there but everything about it stirs my soul, pics, songs, the voice of someone from der,....
Great Music.!! NC has a very dominant Scottish heritage. The Appalacian music grew out it The Scottish Society is strong and many bagpipers. If ever you travel through, you would love some of the Irish pubs and they would undoubtedly more than welcome some "talented wayfaring musicians" as bands are always scheduled here.
Also, if ever passing through Missouri, my brother lives outside St. Louis. He can play almost any and every instrument he puts his hands on. If you ever need a stopover and would just like to visit shortly, I invite you to his home. Of course, I would advise him. ;-))
Thanks for the welcome. I am enjoying your music. Do you ever do any appearances in the Louisville, KY area? If you do, let me know so I can see you perform! Take care.
Hi, Siusan and Zig:
Thanks for the request-looking forward to hearing more from you and staying in touch. Must visit Michigan one day- not a huge distance from Toronto!
I love the music, new to the web-site as i came across it by axident looking for a song i heard on the Scottish Gaelic Radio.
I love the comradship i feel thats coming from this sight.
Thanks for welcome and the invite, this appears to be an awesome site. The more I look around the more i like it. I really appreciate your music, hopefully someday I will hear it in person.
As I navigate through the Labyrinth you have enticed me to begin, I find myself evermore grateful for your kind invitation. I really like what I have heard of Zig’s music, the genres, as well as the couple of links I have followed to other Musicians Sites. Bards, the both of you! “Rave on thy holy souls, Rave on.”
