Ocracoke is very much like right here ( Beaufort ). We made a day of it and went to Hatteras, Kitty Hawk, and then drove around back to here. It was nice tho. I was really surprised to see so many places to shop. When we go to the beach its really more remote. Like we take the boat and go over to Cape Lookout or Shakleford Banks. Stop by the next time your down and we'll take you guys over ! : )
I come in from the north from Nags Head and down the Outer Banks and go across at Hatteras Island. The ferry ride is 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. Just enough to allow you to separate yourself from the mainland but not enough to feel like you are sailing across the ocean. Unfortunately from where you are coming it doesn't make any sense to drive way out of your way to save on the ferry ride. Cedar Island is the way to go. How did you like Ocracoke?
Hello David, I'm currious , how do you get to Ocracoke? I mean which way? i have lived here in Carteret County most of my life and just this past summer visited Ocracoke for the first time. I think it was the 3 hour ferry ride that detered me...LOL , Michelle
