Loraine, I see you have met some of the same Live Ireland friends. With your interest in Thomas Meagher I thought you would like to know that 'Meagher's Escape' was played in the village of Westbury yesterday for the first time ever. It is amazing to think he walked the same streets almost 160 years ago when he was hidden by the local Irish prior to his escape to the United States. Daideo and the Blue Mosquitoes also played the Irish Pier which features incidents from his life.
Hi Loraine, like you I am busy researching my Family Roots in Ireland, I have a number of sites you may find interesting also a few book titles..One book 'Looking Under Stones' by Joe O'Toole talks about his family Roots and a Dingle childhood..I have the (isbn reference number if you need it) Post me a message if you would like the site links that may help your research. cheers Katy
Thanks for the feedback on the song Lorraine. I will let the band know you enjoyed it. Hopefully the other song about Thomas Meagher called the Irish Pier will be ready soon.

I have a public tree on Ancestry.com and can go back only to John Meagher (B.1812) and Anna Dalton Meagher (B. 1813) with absolute certainty due to info from the family bible. John was from Neneigh, Tipperary. He was a merchant and had a family farm too. I believe he was a relative of General Thomas F. Meagher as Gen. Meagher's father was also a merchant. I have several more generations back to 1750 with Meaghers and then hit a wall. I do have parish records for the later generations. Unfortunately no info on the Dalton line.
I write stories for my grandchildren and cannot write a tune or lyrics to save my life! Give the song idea to your son if you like! Hmmm. Perhaps Annie was able to follow poor Michael's convict ship to Tasmania!?
Lorraine, I notice you have accidently replied to yourself as I have also done in the past, but I guessed when I saw you had sent two messages (on the homepage where the latest activity is dislayed) that they might have been meant for me. I have a blog on my page and have only done one entry. If you click on my image you will get to my profile and then you should find the blog on Irish Tasmania if you scroll down. The links I mentioned are to the University of Tasmania which have a site dedicated to the Young Irelanders. I will add more to a future blog entry. You can also send messages directly to individuals on the site for more detailed correspondence.
"Meagher of the Sword" was a cousin to my GGF. My GGF, Michael Joseph, named his firstborn son after the famous General. I started work on ancestry.com 3 yrs ago. Wanted to do something to remember/honor these brave people who left the known for the unknown. Sinaed O'Connor mentions him in a very uncomplimentary way (but possibly true) in her last album.
How do I get to the page with links? Thak you so much!
I saw that there is a Michael Meagher and a Kevin Meagher listed on this site and find that
amusing because I have 2 brothers with the same names!
Welcome Loraine, I am also interested in family history and note you are a Meagher. There are a couple of others interested in this name on the site. I am not connected to the Meagher's, but my son's band play a tune dedicated to Thomas Francis Meagher who was sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) as a convict. He then escaped to the USA and was an officer in the Civil War as well as Governor of Montana. I have also just written a second song on Meagher with my son. I have also started a blog on the site that has links to information on Meagher and would be happy to provide more information if you are interested.
Regards,
David
