We met David Doocey some time ago when he was a guest in our home while on tour with the David Munnelly Band. Like DeDannan, the no-longer-in-existence David Munnelly Band produced a rich field of musicians, all out on their own and creating real excitement. Artists such as Fergal Scahill, Kieran Munnelly, Shauna Mullin, Andrew Murray, and David Doocey come to mind. David’s new album is called Changing Time. Oh, this is mighty! He has surrounded himself with musical family and friends including Patrick Doocey on guitar and Kevin Doocey on accordion. David himself plays fiddle, viola, and concertina- all beautifully. Stephen Doherty joins in on flute with Kevin Doherty on bass. The current king of Celtic piano, Ryan Malloy, is also present and a force to be reckoned with, as usual. Twelve cuts give us the full range of David’s playing and the whole thing is wonderful. The tunes begin with Martin Wynne’s #2; there are so many “Martin Wynn’s” out there. Is there anyone in Irish music who has not recorded a version of Martin Wynne’s, whatever the number following the name? As long as we are on the topic, anyone know who Martin Wynne was in the first place? Anyway, this is a wonderful album. This is not going to be easily found. We recommend simply Googling “David Doocey” and getting to his site. If you go through all the necessary steps, you will be rewarded with a terrific piece of work. We think David Doocey is going to be around a long time, and an album like this will help guarantee that he will be in demand. Excellent tunes. Excellent production. Excellent musicianship. What’s not to love? Rating: FOUR HARPS
