Free WiFi for Dublin City starts today!

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Naoise Ó Muirí will launch Dublin Free WiFi on Thursday 31st January at 11am.

Dublin Free WiFi will launch over twelve locations around the city. The first phase will be available from the Civic Offices, Wood Quay to St. Patrick’s Park and Barnardos Square, the rest of the locations will roll out over the city throughout the month of February and include areas such as Henry Street, Grafton Street and Smithfield to name a few.

Dublin Free WiFi is an initiative of Dublin City Council and is being provided at no cost to the Council by Gowex. It is a free 24 hour, 7 day a week service and there is a 512kbps download speed, people also have the option to purchase a higher download speed of up to 6mbps. Once registered the user will have access to Dublin city hotspots and all other Gowex networks worldwide.

The signage for the free WiFi will be mosaic tiles which will feature on certain buildings in the WiFi zones. A range of fourteen different characters will be rolled out over the month of February with a Viking, a street cleaner, a tourist, a rockabilly girl and pyjama girl being visible as part of the first phase on 31st January. These signs are unique to Dublin city and are a fun and attractive way to advertise the city’s WiFi hotspots. View the full set of characters and find out where you can go digital at www.dublingowexfreewifi.ie (will be live at 10am on 31st January).
