I'm still around...a little teary, but here

#2 Son left this morning for basic training (Air National Guard)--the first chick out of the nest (three others still at home) and I'm drooping a bit. I know he'll be okay, I know he'll be back--not till November, in time for the holiday season--and I know he's not likely to be called into active duty, but I've never said goodbye to one of the kids for longer than 11 days before and even then I could call them.
And yet...this is the way it's supposed to be and it's not as bad as all those Irish mothers who said goodbye to a child sailing over the waves. (Bet you'd better believe those songs set me off, right now!)
Just taking the chance to express to the world what is tearing at my heart right now...

I hope you all had a great St. Pat's!

Thanks, Dabh. Would you believe it...because of the flooding of Dallas/Ft Worth airport, we got him home for another evening! Very strange to have to say good bye a second time, but easier, somehow. He got down there okay and I have an address for him now. He'll be able to call home after basic, and that will help, too.
