It's the first real winter storm in the St. Louis area and as usual a large number of people are going nuts thinking it's the end of the world.
Except for a few years when I lived in Saudi Arabia I've lived here all my life and one of the many things I've noticed about my fellow residents is that for some strange reason everyone makes a mad dash to the grocery store to buy milk, eggs, and bread at the first sign of snow. Why? I have no idea! The only thing I can think of is that when it comes the first big snow it's customary to stay home and make french toast.
Fortunelty, almost anything I could want or need is already inside the house and I don't have to go out for anything. I must admit I had an unusual desire to buy milk, bread and eggs however.
Other parts of the Midwest have it much worse than we do in St. Louis. No power....lots of ice and snow and more on the way. Despite that the general belief is that they're well stocked on french toast.
