Football at Hagan O'Reilly's

Just got back from watching Manchester United defeat Arsenal 2-1 at an Irish pub called Hagan O'Reilly's. It isn't the closest pub to me, but it's fun and midway between my brother Dan and myself...we meet there regularly to watch soccer and have a pint or two. The current special is something called Guinness 250...the 250 apparently means how many years they've been making the stuff. It's sort of like "Guinness Light", if you can believe it. Some people love it, some hate it (they think it's… Continue

Some news

I am not dead, it's just that between the holidays, my energy and my colleagues, and other stuffs, I do not have a lot of time to come here.
Hope that it will be easier in one week when everybody will be back and then have more time to come here and chat and listen radio.
Time for lunch.
See you.

Margeson on the Music Sept 09

Let’s do something a little different this month. First, a review, and then some good, old-fashioned, gossipy newsy stuff from inside the music. Sound good?

First, Fiona Mackenzie is out with a fab album, A Good Suit of Clothes—Songs of the Emigrant Gael. Epic title, hey? Boy, we like her voice. The entire album is in Scots Gaelic, with translations in the liner notes. Well, we THINK it is Scots Gaelic. How would we know? It could be in Irish, but as it is out… Continue

In Focus: Interview with Karl Nesbitt

Karl Nesbitt is one of those musicians, that if you aren’t that good enough, being at his presence makes you want to hide your instrument! He is young, oozing with talent and he also produces. Most people in Ireland play a musical instrument (and sings well too), some can even master more than one. Sometimes they play it just for fun in family gatherings. Some take it to the point that they make albums. When we talk about Irish music, it’s always a family affair as proven by The Corrs, The… Continue

Milwaukee Irish Fest 09, The low down with Bill Margeson

K. Milwaukee Irish Fest. The big mamoo. The grandaddy. The mack daddy. The BIG ONE.

Gorgeous weather all three days, really. Big, big crowds, but not a new record, according to management. Probably about 129,000 over the four night-three day event. Hits? Surely, Scotland's Salsa Celtica, The Red Hot Chili Pipers from Scotland, and… Continue

Giora:Adding a Dark Edge to the Irish Music Scene

Peter Chains is kind enough to let us in for an email chat. He leads the four piece band called Giora .It’s a combination of different element. Say if you are into Metallica, Alice and Chains, Acoustic or Goth Metal then you will like the band. Their stage persona might me dark and mysterious as reflected through the songs but they’re also about having as good laugh, drinking and having a good time. If you haven’t heard what they sound like check their… Continue

Today I am feeling a little like torpid, two days ago I knew that a friend has died in the same month that my mother died, and this maybe explain some things that I felted and could not understand.

When I went to see my sister almost two months ago on her birthday, I take with me some photos of us to give to my sister and to him, and wanted to see him, I even ask my sister, as they were good friends and she knew where was his house, to take me there, but she was not willing with the same… Continue

Interview with Dublin Artist Donie Ryan

The only time I feel alive is when I'm painting.

-Vincent Van Gogh

Donie Ryan comes across as someone whom you could talk about music and painting for hours. He also has a great sense of humor and likes the company of people with positive vibes. I am not sure if he is going to agree with all these things I write about him. Anyway, Donie has been painting for years as you will learn in this interview. He has created a lot of artworks and some he showed to me through MSN… Continue

Cool Site Update @LiveIreland

Wow what is happening here? I love the new look of the site. I see that my friends have increased a bit. I chatted with my friend from Dublin Donie Ryan. He is a painter and he lives a few minutes away from Enya's castle. I will be featuring his paintings on my blog. I wish to spread the good word around too.
