hi James, how wonderful that you are writing a series about magic! I am sure you would get inspired by some of the old medieval cities of Europe. Nijmegen is a charming city that snuggles near the river Waal. Unfortunately during World War II most of it was bombed, which is why not many of the medieval buildings remain. But at some spots it still has that atmosphere.
If you ever get the chance, you should visit Edinburgh. The old city centre is truly magical.
