- I am of Irish descent on both sides of my family. The Dwyers came from Cashell area, my great grandfather and wife came to Van Diemen's Land in 1853. On my mother's side, the Ryans, came from the same area at about the same time. From what I am able to discover, both families were very friendly in the earlier days, and were great opponents of the English over the many years that Ireland was under the Protestant Heel. Proudly the Irish genes have been passed down to me. If anyone is in the least bit interested , I would gladly tell of the struggles that the Irish had in the early days of colonisation here, and thereafter. The thread that held us together is the Catholic Faith! If anyone is able to give me lead as to how I may track the forebears of John Dwyer ( my great grandfather ) born, I think in 1835,I would be most gtrateful. Surely someone is able to help me, so in God's name get in touch with me. Even the slightest aid would be greatly appreiated. God bless. Syd.
