- I've lived in Alaska my whole life...born and raised. I did leave the state for school tho.
I have always been facinated with Ireland...perhaps because of it's history...or maybe an old family link (only about an 8th or 16th Irish along with about 56 other things...a bit of a mutt I guess). Either way, I have had the oportunity to go there twice and loved it both times. I would love to go there again for a longer period of time, but financially that does not seem so possible.
Ah well, a girl can dream right?
I have a BS in Anthropology/Archaeology so the history facinates me greatly.
Becides that...90% of the people I met and talked to were kind and warm. I loved hearing stories (be they true or not) and the music, seeing the scenery, wandering around, and trying to blend in as much as possible!! :-P

I tried to catch a Leprechaun, or a cute Irish man, but ended up catching a cold instead!
I guess I didn't really try hard enough for the man, but to my defence I was distracted by other things...like Butlers Chocolate stores!!! Oh my word, their mochas are the best (especially if you ask for marshmellows on top) and they give you a lovely little piece of chocolate just for ordering something!
It was a whorlwind trip, and except for the cold I had a great time!

bob leonard said… - this is our second 6 month stay...in 2007 the wife taught a class at University of limerick...during her sabbatical from the university here in california...otherwise the visits are 3 months during the summer "school vacation" i am retired and i spend a little more time there....so far are time there is pretty much "retirement time"...perhaps one day you can stop by for a visit...bob

- hi sandy..wife and i leave Feb 9th ( week away ) for ireland..we can stay 6 months each year now that she is only teaching the fall semester at vanguard university here in costa mesa california.
speaking of air fares as we were a year ago...one way for us is only $210 each....we will get our roundtrip in dublin for our return this year and return feb 2010.....for various reasons we could not book a round trip this year ( has to do with a free roundtrip ticket we want to use )
hope you enjoyed your visit to ireland.....i didnt care all that much for my first visit ( too hectic ) but there is no place else i want to live....itis a comfortable fit for my wife and i who have had enough of the "fast life" in america...ireland is a good place if you are content to live a dull contented pastoral existence. and a happy joy filled satisfying one at that.

- I enjoyed reading your page. Is the first photo in the slide show you? I assume that is some anthropological ritual you picked up from some exotic culture...i enjoyed your telling of your trip; too bad about the leprechaun or the cute irish guy. I studied sociology in college, so appreciated some of the nuances in your telling.
