Grúpa na Gaeilge

This group is for all those who wish to learn the Irish language with me. I am not a fluent speaker but someone who is in the process of learning myself. It is my hope that we can become an interactive group so we can all progress together.

About Me:
I was born in Boston Massachusetts in a predominantly Irish neighborhood to a large Catholic family. I'm the third of eight sibs. When I was seven years old my family moved into the suburbs. I grew up listening to my mother and father telling Irish tales and singing Irish songs. I grew to love those songs and today I'm still singing them to my children. I gained a strong sense of family and our very large extended family stays close. We love to get together and play misic. St. Paddys day is always a big party at the Bradys.
I've always been an Irishman at heart and it wasn't until my late forties that I decided to take up the language. I have a long way to go with it but I still keep trying.
Irish Celtic music seems to speak to my soul. I listen to it frequently and just can't seem to get enough!
In a few years, when I retire, my wife and I plan to visit Ireland. I'd like to go in August and take in the music festival in Donegal.
Aside from my Irish interests, I'm an avid photographer, not by trade, but as a passionate hobby. I mostly shoot sports, but dabble in portraiture. I also love the game of golf and play whenever I can. Growing up, I played Ice hockey. I think I was 43 before I stopped playing, not because I wanted to, but because there is no Hockey rink in my current location.
I also like to play guitar, although I'm not very good but I'm good enough to entertain my family and myself when I'm in the right mood!
And that's about it! I'm an ordinary man living an ordinary life but find pleasure in many things and it keeps me content. That's about all a man can ask.

Favorite Music:
Altan, Annuna, Enya, Moya, Niamh Parsons, Andy M. Stewart, Déanta, Dervish, Van Morrison, Dropkick Murphys, Afro Celt Sound System, Gaelic Storm, etc, etc, etc.......
I also like The Beatles, The Eagles, The Stones, The Doors, anything Blues, some Classical music, on so on!
There's so much excellent music out there, it would be a crime to limit yourself to one genre. If it's good, I like it!
Currently Reading? (Books Magazines etc)
Mostly technical stuff relating to photography.

Dia dhuit a chairde. I hope you all like the music player! If you want to keep listening to my songs, just click on Launch Standalone player and it will come up in another tab or window. It's a small world. Here I am sitting in South Korea writing to someone I found on an Irish music website, who lives in MY HOMETOWN! Yup, born and raised there, didn't escape until I was 40, 10 years ago. What caught my eye was your photo entitled Crescent Beach (or Salt Creek beach, since Crescent is private). Are you really waiting to go to Ireland??? That's a shame! Go now and go often!! I have been four times in 6 years. :-) I'm going to post some photos later from a month-long trip across the west of Ireland.

slante,
Marcie

Hey Robert,

I've been off line for many months. Computer problems so I finally broke down and bought a new one. Hope you and your family are doing well. Bet the grandchild has really grown. Mine grandson is 10 months now and crawling everywhere. He keeps me hopping. Hope your staying warm and avoiding the colds and flu. Take care..

Like the music. Ok after I emailed you I felt guilt that I did not have any pics of Olympia NP up...so the first 9 I have posted on my site are of the park...and of course the beach you said to go and see. Enjoy.
Pat
How did you do this music player? Nice!

Hey there Bob...I'm back home at last. Just a few moment with more time next week. Stayed with my sister and family as her husband was dying from cancer...was sad, pain, but lots of love all around. Jim played him music and he was at peace when he heard the music. After his passing and his memorial service we went camping for 3 days on the coast before coming home. One question...on the photo page did I put pictures in wrong? I'm on a different computer...but they look long...are they right or not.
Pat
