About Me:: Hello. My name is Robert. I am currently a law school student in New York. I have travelled a lot around the world and one area which I have never been to is Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. I am mermerized by the literature and music which comes out of these islands. For a place I have never been, the culture, the stories, and the people I have met have led me to love the place. Anyone from NYC or know of Irish communities or events in New York?

At 4:02am on April 19, 2008, Cindy Day ( O'Day) said…: NYC is a bit of a different world there compared to the Irish quite lands and some of the peaceful small villages and such. I have Irish family roots, but since I've been raised all my life in the South (Tenn. that is ). You could say a bit of a southern bell living in a area with alot of Irish and a little Scottish root's , a Tennessee gal. A very different world from yours. Which makes it so interesting to meet people on here. I can understand why you would love visiting Ireland. Since 90 percent of the Irish lived in around New York in the mid 1800's I' m sure there still must be some events somewhere there , its fairly easy to find here in the South. That's were clogging and Blue Grass came from... the Irish in this area. Although you only see the dancers at special events. Your local Chamber should know how to connect you to the right people there. Hope to hear from you , everyone is very friendly on here.

Alot of it has to do with different societies such as Donegal Society,Mayo Society, etc. There is an irish Imigration Office in the city too where alot of the immigration items are handled and visas, etc. I would think that local recreation centers would know where ot look for events close or within Brooklyn area too. If oyu cannot find anything googled under ireish Ctr. NY, come to Philly, we have tons such as AOH (Ancient Order of Hibernians) SOSP (Sons of Saint Patrick) and all the societies. Each one of the groups hosts dances and musical nights etc. Find an Irish bar and ask about, you will be amazed who has the insdie track and lots of luck.
By the way, what kind of law are you looking to practice? Practice in New York? One of my brothers (I have 7) went to law schooland kept changing up what he could practice by taking more classes and thwen he went international for awhile. Amzing how intricate law is and how much oyu all haveoto read and read and read...hahaI am studying ot be a teacher and pray to go to Ireland to stay. You have ot see it in person to know how sad you wil be when you leave it to come home. Hard to explain. Slan.
