Born Belfast. Write songs for people who've touched my life: George Best, Veronica Guerin, Princess Diana, Saint John of Soho, the homeless old man I once met in London, my father, my mother, my wife, my dog...
Sadly, I have very few words of Gaelic myself. However, the regular patrons of Kelly's are always anxious to provide a translation when asked. In essence, it says . . . 'when the drink goes in, the senses go out.' Know that feeling Paul?

Often I seem to appear ‘familiar’ to people, I get this comment a lot. Perhaps we did meet! Last time I was in Kelly’s Cellars was in July, 2005. Brought my family over from Canada for their first visit to Ireland. As you will appreciate . . . they loved it! Thought you might enjoy the following . . . “Nuair a bhánn an deoch Istigh bíann an chiall a muigh”. Familiar? Yes, this is the text that is written on the wall in Kelly’s Cellars. Check your LI email. . . I have left you a message.
“What about ye” . . . Listened to your tribute song 'Beautiful Feet' . . . very moving. George was indeed the 'greatest' - nothing short of 'magical' - a hero of mine since his first days with Man. Utd. Even Pele regarded him as the best footballer in the world. Great praise indeed! George embodied the true essence of the Belfast character . . . a great sense of humour, charm, and that propensity to be ‘devilish’. He was one (among the few) who was able to cross the ‘political divide’ . . . no mean feat in N.I. as you know Paul. Sadly, he was gone all too soon. You will note from my profile that I too hail from Belfast. As they say, you can take the ‘boy’ out of Belfast, but not the Belfast out of the boy. Look forward to hearing from you.
