We are planning on hostels this time around and the one in Kilfenora was one I bookmarked as it's only one of a few in Clare Co. Was it a good place? My teenaged daughter is a dancer and we have done a few caile dances around here. The second thing you mentioned, our last trip we too skipped the Ring, however did go to Dingle as it's still a great town but getting a bit more touristy. We too hung out on the Beara Peninsula. What a great place that is. We walked around a few magical places there.
If we do pull off the trip in 2009 our goal is starting in Clare and going NW from there. Sligo and Donnegal.
I'm not a musician, just love the music. My daughter (the Irish Dancer) also plays the flute and whistle. She keeps urging me to play the bodhran.

I can certainly identify with the love of West Ireland. Hoping to head back there in 2009, pending on money that is. Especially smitten with the music in Clare Co.
