About Me:
I live in Cypress, California (Orange County) with my husband, two sons ( 22 and 15), two double-yellow head Amazon parrots (Chips and Salsa), two society finches (Rocky Road to Dublin and Caramel topping), and a dog (Killer)
I work at home writing articles and sewing and selling my simple line of children's clothes. I like to cook and read also, but have very little time to do either. I'd love an Irish pen pal!
Favorite Music:
Traditional Irish music...the more traditional the better. As far as artists go...Dervish, Joannie Madden, Clannad, and the sound of the Bohdran.
Currently Reading? (Books Magazines etc)
No time, but when I do a good romance novel....my favorite writer, Lavyrle Spencer

A museum for The Blasket? How wonderful! Where is it located? I don't suppose it's on the Blasket itself, as physically that would be quite rigorous to visit, as I gather.
You know, in retrospect, with today's technology and satellite accessibility, I suppose it might be feasible to go back to a possible residential situation on Blasket. It might be rather lonely, but some folks like that kind of thing. I know if I had my husband with me, I would probably love it. You could settle down to poetry or painting, and you'd have all the inspiration your soul would need. Of course, you'd have to be a bit retired...*smile* We've got about another 5-7 years before that happens.
I've been chatting with Slan, and I think I may go over to the Gealic language group to learn Gaelic. Fun, huh?

BTW......yeah, I'd probably do a tour once or twice. Sometimes people can't get access to places except for tours. That's sometimes good in a way, as too much un-monitored traffic sometimes results in graffiti and damage to a country's priceless treasures. I sometimes think there should be more monitoring of the "big trees" out here. There are some locations where people can mod around all they want, carving their names ETC. wherever they want. Yuk!
But, you know, when the tours are through, again, there's simply the people. The heart of Ireland, just as the people are the heart of any land.
I just finished a fascinating book about the history of the The Great Blasket. It was wonderful. The people who lived there were like the last bastion of the real Irish language and culture. The book tells about how the island died out and the people were forced to leave. What strength in those people! It was a good book! You might find some info on line about the Great Blasket--I've never checked.

Oh...about the music....I wasn't asking about the individual's music downloads...on the main page, in the upper left corner, you can click and get streaming music, both trad and current. I click on the trad and listen for hours. It's supposed to be live streaming music from Dublin. Once in a while I hear an artist who's music I'd like to hear more of. But I can't figure out how to find out who it is.
Anyhow.....gotta get to work. TTYL! Elaine in HOT California

I am afraid that I actually don't know how that whole loading music or listening to it works on the site--I rarely check in much these days becaus eof school, but surf around pages and ask folks how they do it or check out some of my friend's pages--they all have beautiful pages and music up and most list it there.

Elaine--I am happy we will be friends. You made me laugh right aloud with your note. I ahve to say though, that People will all sware that their area is the musical heartbeat of Ireland, but I have been all over that country and you cannot single out any one area for musical expertise any more that one area for the language, which happens to have a much varied sound as well per area. I love it there, but buying a home is outrageous price wise in many areas. There are rentals and fully furnished ones as well, in small towns. I was one town awayf from where they shoot Ballykissangel and it is the most beautiful area. I know what oyu mena about the people, but there is also something to be said for taking a tour to get a unique look at the history, religion, and culture. I don't care for tours much now either, but through my studies and trips, I have gotten very comfortable there-the social/cultural climate is dramatically different nowadays compared to when I went about 6 years ago--immigration has changed the fibre of the country ALOT. well, both bosses have come in so I have to get to work! Chat soon!!!!
