Eimear, I finished work early and spent from mid-afternoon with my family at a local Hobart pub owned by an Irishman featuring live Irish music all day. There were lots of Irish there as well as those with more distant connections to Ireland. The ba…

It was just another day to me, except for an extra moment set aside for silent mourning and mediation.

Spent the whole day (which is one among the others, here in my village) on my computer, thinking about how everybody on this site would enjoy it, listening to liveIreland and waiting for my request (Morrison's jig) to be cast. :-) By the way... It…

Eimear, I'm proud of your work in bringing Irish history (Kilmainham) to the forefront. I'm not at all surprised by some, mistaking your good work for an obsession. It seems that "modern Ireland" is a land without a past....or a past some would rather not remember. How many would know what happened in Kilmainham, from 1916 to 1940? I doubt if many Irish under 40 would know much,if anything. We once were poor, but proud and cultured. Then, we gave up our independence and neutrality for the nihilistic consumer culture. If Ireland does not find an answer to its present dilemma, it could end up with something to be really ashamed to be, namely: being, poor, ignorant and visionless.

They call me Irish; Ach, is Éirinnach Mé.

Beir Bua.
Séamus.

Eimar,
Just looked at your photos. Are all the prison photos of the prison at Wicklow? If so, I thought you might be interested to know that the first female convicts to come to Van Diemen's Land (on the 'Catherine' to Sydney, and then on the 'Kangaroo' to Hobart) in 1814, included Elinor Quinn/Ryder from Wicklow. I guess she may have spent time in the prison. Would love to know more about the prison as I and others are currently writing songs for the band my son is a member of (Daideo and the Blue Mosquitoes). These are all songs about the Irish in Tasmania.

Hi Eimear! Sorry I missed your show today from Florida USA. I had too much work and could not listen. I just love all your talks and songs that you pick. You certainly are the best "operator" the LiveIreland folks have on the internet! Sorry I missed you. Perhaps next week. Sleep tight. Regards, Richard
