We've had a very early - and very cold - start to deep winter here at Loughcrew this year. Along with many other parts of Europe we've had freezing Arctic winds blow down on us, blasting us with snow, sleet and very cold temperatures. I was up at the Loughcrew Cairns this summer solstice - what an amazing place. 5,000 year old mounds built to celebrate/commemorate who knows what? They haven't lost any of their majesty despite the toll of the millennia.A perfect blue sky at 9pm turned into a cloth of gold and purple with a dusting of tiny clouds for effect.
