She is a booted chicken. It is a cool term because the 'boots' are her white feathers on the legs!! These are fancy birds, I don't show them. They do lay, but not as much as a Rhode Island Red. Her breed is a white cochin. I typed the wrong breed ...

Chris is a brave lad. Are these exotic show chickens or egg layers? I don't know my chicken breeds nearly as well as I do the dogs.

Whoops. Hit the wrong key... Ben was a tall, slow spoken Kentuckian who reminded me a little of a young Abe Lincoln.
I remember one night we walked on a path through the forest from their cabin to another cabin where some friends of theirs were having a dinner party -- again with no electricity or running water. They did have a well though. It was a magical night. How many people get to go to a dinner party walking through the forest? We carried lanterns with us.
I hope the people on post at Ft Campbell treated you well. They always impressed me as kind and solicitous when dealing with "their own" as they call the troopers and their families there. I will remember you and your late husband in my Episcopal prayers tomorrow on Veterans Day.
Best regards,
Schley

In the early 70's I had two good friends, Ben and Xenia, both PhD's who taught at UK, who spent their summers living in a home made log cabin on their land above Red River Gorge. No electricity or running water. They cooked in a tent outside the cabin. They had a Jersey cow for milk and butter. They had an outhouse. It sat near a cliff, faced away from the cabin and had no door. Their property was at a high elevation and the outhouse looked out onto thousands of acres of eastern Kentucky forest. I think the horizon was 20 miles away. Strange feeling sitting there contemplating God's good earth. Xenia was French and Russian. When she got excited she spoke French. When she got mad she spoke Russian. Ben was a

I didn't get to see Galway Bay any closer than 20,000 ft but from up there it was beautiful. We were in Ireland during one of the longest sunny, rain-free periods in Irish history.

I am a commisioned traveler. My wife is a contract manager with a government agency that helps senior citizens. My brother is a physician in Lexington, KY. Currently he is working with David Sinclair (The Cure for Alcoholism by Roy Eskapa) on treating alcoholism with naltrexone. In about 70-80% of the affected population it also seem to be indicated for some other addictions: gambling, porn, opioid use as well as some others. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with tobacco addiction.

I have a rambling background. I have been a college instructor, journalist, a bicycle repairman (just for 3 weeks), photographer, public relations director for a hospital and a deputy sheriff K9 officer. I have had fun doing all these. I suspect I am not through yet.

Finally, if I had the opportunity to go to Ireland early tomorrow morning, I would drop everything and go. It is a beautiful place with beautiful people.

Best regards,
Schley
