Irish Internet Radio and TV from Dublin, Ireland.
Fiddler Antóin MacGabhann (Tony Smith) comes from Mullahoran, Co. Cavan and now lives in Ashbourne, Co. Meath. Antóin brought the best of Ireland while on holidays here in the USA visiting with family and friends. Antóin came to Fairfield for a return visit with The Shamrogues. While playing throughout the night, Antóin provided a rich background story for every traditional tune telling the audience about the composers, location areas from which tunes originated, and how the tunes are shared, passed down and played today. The evening was as much a history lesson as well a house concert.
The night was filled with Antóin’s impressive repertoire of jigs, hornpipes, airs, and reels with lively flawless rhythm. The special treat was the inclusion of a few original compositions by Antóin and he ended the evening with a blast of reels… that just could’ve gone on forever. The music was wonderful throughout the evening, and hopefully, there will be another return visit very soon.
