My Gough ancestors lived in Ulster and were kicked out because my Great Great? Grandfather was teaching catholics to read so they were forced to either move to the US or Australia. They choose to move to Wisconsin, USA. We found their church and gravesite in Church Isle, Ulster.
The names Goff and Gough in Ireland are of Welsh origin having arrived with a family named 'Coch' meaning 'red' who settled in Counties Dublin and Waterford. It is in these Counties that the majority of descendants can still be found to this very day.
