I'm trying to find Information on Lewis Baird, Born in Dublin, Ireland in the year 1755. Would there be anyone able to help me in this search? Thank you

Wyoming indeed has everything, including wind, not a place for people who don't like weather extremes.  For those of us whom can cope it is the only place.  Horse: Map-T-Bar registered Quarter Horse, no longer own him, but he was a nice horse.

Thanks Sean for mentioning Wolfe's book of names and surnames. And add with it Bell's book and Maclysaght's book and between the three you can usually find the name searched. Also, it looks like you got it all out there in Wyoming. You should've mentioned that beautiful horse you're on too.

Just surfing geanelogical stuff, and saw the questions about origins of Irish Names.  I have long had a copy of Irish Names and Surnames, by Rev Patrick Wolfe, published 1923.  I find it a great referance with lots of information, and it is still in print.  Genealogical Publishing Co.

Chanda, here is the reference to the Murphy's and Byrnes as being old names in Ireland. I don't like to mention something without a citation.  http://www.irishcentral.com/roots/Irish-surnames-explained---the-me...  There are many other references for these names being as old as they are. The DNA testing can resolve, or at least help with ancestry. Regarding the churches burning down with records and government offices too, the real issue is "why" ?

Chanda's comment about ancestry.com is a good starting point. And the Murphy's and Byrnes are some of the oldest names in Ireland. I would suggest to everyone...  get your DNA tested (its getting cheaper) www.familytreedna.com, if not for you, for posterity and your grandchildren will love you for doing it. Also, I highly recommend joining at least one genealogy group for sharing info. There are several organizations, however, I would suggest joining a regional one to make available the resources that your local library may not have. An excellent Irish organization in the mid-west is the Irish Genealogical Society International (Minnesota) http://irishgenealogical.org/.

I have found that ancestry.com was a big help. I have the Murphy's on one side and the Byrnes on the other. With churches burning down with records I am stuck. Do have a pinpoint of about where the came from in Ireland. Also have Clarks in there somewhere.
