I am searching for information about a Sheehan ancestor whom I believe was born in county Kerry in about 1839. His name is Mago William Sheehan. He emigrated to the U.S.A. settling in Des Moines County, Iowa where he married Mary J. Carroll in 1859, She was born in Kerry in 1841, emigrated to the U.S. around 1852 with her two parents and two sisters. Any information or suggestions will be gratefully received.

Hey Sean - thanks for your family info - Do you know when any of the Sheehan's came over? Through Ellis? I am finding it very hard to find the Sheehan's in Cork City (probably becasue there are so many) I wouldn't be surprized to find that we aren't that far off from finding a common relative. I know my Grandfather John J Sheehan- father John Riely worked as a Bootmaker (my Grandfather's birth certificate). I have found his address as 2 Johnson's Lane Cork City. I then found an entry in the 1856 Slater's Royal National Directory for a Boot Maker located at 63 St Patrick Street Cork City owner by a Robert Johnson who also lived on Johnson's Lane. So I am guessing that this was the shop where my great grandfather worked. I'm going to go over and check this trail out this summer. I'll let you know what I find and pay attention to your family names you mention.

too fast a finger. My Sheehan branch came over in the 1880's Southwest Cork we think. Started a bakery in Tauton, my grandfather born in New Bedford 1881 had Gailic as his first language. My First ancestor to come over was Thomas Finan, Roscommon, then his wife Nancy Dwyer Galway. The Linnane's came over in the 1860's from Kilkenny, Last were the Cody's from Tipperrary in the 1880' two ticketers, first stop Newfoundland, then Nova Scotia where my grandmother was born, then to Boston

don't think we are related, but any Sheehan's in the Falmouth area are likely to be cousins
