Song

by Thomas Moore
the greatest Irish lyrist
born Dublin, 1779 - died 1852
Have you not seen the timid tear
Steal trembling from mine eye?
Have you not mark'd the flush of fear,
Or caught the murmur'd sigh?
And can you think my love is chill,
Nor fix'd on you alone?
And can you rend, by doubting still,
A heart so much your own?

To you my soul's affections move
Devoutly, warmly, true:
My life has been a task of love,
One long, long thought of you.
If all your tender faith is o'er,
If still my truth you'll try;
Alas! I know but one proof more -
I'll bless your name, and die!

THE ROSE OF THE WORLD
Who dreamed that beauty passes like a dream?
For these red lips, with all their mournful pride,
Mournful that no new wonder may betide,
Troy passed away in one high funeral gleam,
And Usna`s children died.

We and the labouring world are passing by;
Amid men`s souls that waver and give place
Like the pale waters in their wintry race,
Under the passing stars, foam of the sky,
Lives on this lonely face.

Bow down,archangels,in your dim abode:
Before you were,or any hearts to beat,
Weary and kind one lingered by His seat;
He made the world to be a grassy road
Before her wandering feet.

Mr. Daub,
A wonderful song! I once tried to sing that at the Pop Show in 7th grade. "Colcannon" is one of the first, and best, Irish songs I've ever heard.

MEMORIES OF DUNFANAGHY
Four rock walls to contain
Things we yearn and love,
In Dunfanaghy,small thatch cottage
Near the river dwell,
Gleaming in the bush in day
Disapearing over night,so loved

Laughters and sorrows reminiscenced
Sounds of tools, of youngs screaming,
Water thrown outside by half-door
Changing of sun`s colors
On the white walls sparkling,
Smell of fresh cut hay
Smell of kitchen and home.

Sorrows forgotten in Dunfanaghy by the sea
Living and dying for beleifs
Make you what you are,
Smell of draught,and summer fields
Songbirds and winds of roses,
Reach the heart like life itself.

Small thoughts so great delights
Complete joy of cherish moments,
Awareness of being alive.

This poem from me,to all friends on LiveIreland..............................

Dia dhuit a Lady Dianne,
Thank you so much for comments, Lady Dianne When I read that poem I get lost somewhat in time
And makes me yearn good things in life.....and appreciate so much all
And good things are not always big.....better is simple.....and small....Thank you meLady

Pierre,

You are fast becoming the ‘poet laureate’ of Live Ireland. One gets a nice sense of nostalgia in reading your poem. The image of the ‘small thatch cottage’ and the ‘half-door’ offer a comforting reminder of the ‘way things were.’ For an instance, we can ‘dwell near the river’ lost in our ‘small thoughts’ and ‘cherished moments.’ Oh to be in Dunfanaghy!

HERE`S IS TO MY TWO FRIENDS FROM AUSTRALIA.......MARY AND OZZY...
Those are words from a song that I sing each week on my guitar and think about you guys.....do not know who composed it...??..Its call

Far away in Australia
Story about an Irishman who whent to Australia to seek a better life for his love one

Sweetheart I`m bidding you found farwell
I will be yours someday,
I bound for a new land my fortune to try
And I`m ready to sail away.

Ref;Far away in Australia soon will faith be kind
And I`ll will be ready to welcome at last,
The girl I left behind.

Oh you can leave me this poor maidin said
I will not let you go,
But I must leave you he gently reply
For only a while you know....ref.

Now if in success or failure
I will always be true,
And proudly each day in the land far away
i`ll be building a home for you....ref.

Dayly she whaits at the old cottage gate
Watching the whole day through,
Then one day a message from over the sea
And I`m hopping these words are true...ref...

Far away in Australia now as come the time
For I am ready to welcome at last the girl I left behind.....

Super song............Pierre

SUMMERLAND
Urdge to smell salty air
Push by the coming wind,
From the sea soft sanddunes
Spalsh of the waves on the shore,
Smell of fish decay,vastness.

People feasting,family together playing
Smell of coconut and peaches,
Coming from sunscreens,hard sun
Yelling and screaming for the balls,
Sandcatles and potholes..........

People embrassing,looking for each other
Walking on the shore,in blowing wind,
Together merging in nature,stranger looking
Cold water retainning,fearless,
Eating and talking.

Tranquility of sceneries,satisfaction
How time goes by, scarcely,
To remember summertime...........

From me to all my friends on LiveIreland......Pierre
All have a great Holiday.....................
Ouch. They say all Irish songs are about loving, longing or losing; I think the last one is definitely this song's topic. Very well written and quite beautiful, but the ending is very saddening.

Thanks for posting!
